What might a befriender do with the individual they are befriending?

Picture of stick people holding hands and reaching out to another stick person  A befriender might:

  • be an extra pair of hands on a shopping trip

  • take a child out to the park or for a walk

  • go with a teenager to a youth club or aerobics class or similar activity

  • meet up with an adult for lunch or go and see a film

  • spend time listening and talking to a member of the family

  • offer the family a break by spending time with a child in the home

Do you have an interest you could share?  It could be sport, computers, walking, cinema, eating out, or something as relaxing as watching TV!  Some befrienders always spend time in the family home whilst others go out and about.  The scheme is tailored to the needs of the family and the volunteer.  We match volunteers to families and individuals who have something in common.  By giving some of your time, you could really open up this world and support their inclusion into society.  You can really make a difference.
