Fill A Bag (FAB) Day

Autism Jersey have been inspired by the TV programme Mary, Queen of Charity Shops. This programme, recently screened on BBC2, showed presenter Mary Portas try to improve the income of a charity shop by giving it a makeover.  Autism Jersey are preparing something similar with their shop, AJs, and you can help.

You are invited to bring your unwanted, quality clothes to work on a designated FAB Day.  FAB stands for Fill a Bag and Autism Jersey volunteers will come and collect the clothes from during the day.  The clothes will then be recycled, customised or simply sold through AJs to raise much needed funds for the charity.

The added advantage of this scheme is that some of the donated items will be used to launch the Bright Young Talent - BYT - fashion and craft project involving those on the Autistic Spectrum as well as local textile artists and students.  The two new initiatives will not only generate additional funds for the charity but also establish a sustainable community based enterprise that nurtures talent and supports the environment whilst establishing a model for inclusion.

So please, check out your wardrobes. Check your cupboards and drawers for those unwanted but quality items. 86% of women have an item of clothing in their wardrobe that they've never worn. You can free up the space and donate it to a good cause.

The way that we suggest the day is organised is as follows:

1.    Agree a date for the FAB Day with Autism Jersey, usually giving your staff a week to 2 weeks notice to fill their bags.

2.    Publish the FAB Day flyer confirming the date

3.    Either supply your own black bags ready to put donated items in or we can provide these

4.    We can attend your offices either first thing or at lunchtime so that we can personally accept at least some of the goods and pass on our thanks

5.    We agree a collect time with you either the same evening or the next day

6.    Once the items have been sorted and sold/customised we let you know the benefits, these may be financial, creative, life skills or a combination of all three

7.    You will be informed of when we be holding a FAB Day sale where many of the items will be sold at a selected venue that is centrally located

8.    You will be told when customised and recycled goods will be available for sale in the shop
