The Parent to Parent Line is a free, confidential telephone support service offered by volunteer parents to other parents of an adult or child with an autistic spectrum disorder. The Line makes the most of the wealth of experience, knowledge and insight that parents have. All of the parent volunteers share the determination to offer help and support to other parents. They have all experienced the impact of autism in their own family and want to do something to support others in similar situations. The Parent to Parent Line is staffed by a rota of parent volunteers who cover shifts that are convenient to them, usually a few hours a week. Parents can phone the freephone number at any time and leave a message and contact number. The parent volunteer who is next on duty will pick up the message and phone the caller back. The cost of the call is paid for by the NAS (National Autistic Society) Information, Advice and Advocacy department. If you need someone to talk to in a sympathetic, totally non judgemental and anonymous way, the Parent to Parent line could be just what you are looking for. It has the advantage (or disadvantage depending on your perspective!) that none of the volunteers are from Jersey, so you won’t be talking to somebody that knows you.
