  • Autism Jersey Trek and Ride 2012 - 16th - 22nd September 2012 in France

Autism Jersey has arranged a challenging trek and ride in the foothills of the Pyrenees in the Cathar region. The Cathars were a dissident sect of medieval Christians mainly in what is now the south west of France.  -In the 13th century they were brutally suppressed and took refuge in hilltop fortresses, known today as ‘Cathar castles’. The area, which is between Carcassonne and Perpignan, provides beautiful scenery against the backdrop of the high Pyrenees, and is now regarded as one of the best walking and horse-riding areas in France.

The Trek will take place between 16th and 22nd September 2012 and is designed to cater for both walkers and horse riders. Each group will broadly follow similar routes although it is expected that the riders will cover a greater distance. Each day will offer up to 7 hours of activity which will include, when appropriate, visits to the hilltop castles.  This physically challenging week will include the opportunity to sample the gastronomy of the area – not to mention the wine.

The sponsorship which each participant will be required to obtain forms the first part of the challenge and will be directed towards providing a permanent base for Autism in Jersey.

For further information about the Trek or Ride email  trek@autismjersey.org  or telephone 07829 803 979

  • AJ's Get Away Days for parents of children and young people on the Autism Spectrum                                                We are planning to trial a ‘get away day’. This is for parents of children and young people on the Autism Spectrum. The idea is that you would be able to have a morning or afternoon to go for lunch or shopping whilst your young person was being looked for by trained staff in a safe environment. We are looking for your views on this – would you be interested? If so email us on admin@autismjersey.org with the age of your child and how you think it would work best for you

  • Ideas for Get Togethers for Older Children                                                                                                                                             We are always being asked for activities/events for older children, where they can do an activity and the parents can chat – do you have any ideas you would like to see? Let us know at k.dyson@autismjersey.org
