Autism Awareness & SPELL

An introduction to autism and SPELL

This course will provide a basic understanding of autism and the SPELL framework.  It is suitable for anyone wanting to improve their knowledge and for more general awareness raising with those who are not providing direct support to people.

Course duration 3 hours.

This course is delivered by one Lead Trainer licensed by Tizard, University of Kent.

Understanding and supporting children and adults on the autism spectrum using the SPELL framework.

The SPELL framework was developed by the National Autistic Society in conjunction with people with autism, their families and professionals.  The training has been revised in 2019 by Professor Judy Beadle-Brown and Professor Richard Mills through Tizard, University of Kent.

It is a socially valid framework that supports the understanding of autism and the development of autism friendly environments and approaches.  It is an individualised and person-centred approach.

The courses combine presentations with exercises, discussions and videos.

It is recommended that anyone wishing to complete SPELL 2 leave at least a month between attendance of SPELL 1 and SPELL 2

These courses are suitable for anyone who is supporting children or adults with autism in any context, including parents, teachers, support staff, social workers, medics, team leaders, government employees and the public domain or people working in the criminal justice system.

These courses have been certified by the CPD certification service (the leading independent CPD accreditation institution) as conforming to continuing professional development principles.  All delegates attending the training will receive a certificate of attendance upon completion of SPELL 2 detailing eligible CPD hours which can be used as verifiable documentary evidence when submitting CPD recording forms.
